Municipal Law
One of the primary focuses of the Stumbo Hanson firm is municipal law. This firm currently serves as city attorney for 19 cities in Northeast Kansas and frequently works on special projects for cities across the state.
We have extensive knowledge of the many aspects of local government entities, including matters such as land use and zoning, right-of-way acquisition, land development, construction and financing of public projects, employment disputes, and experience in day-to-day operations of municipal and quasi-municipal entities. As a full-service firm, we also frequently represent special districts and cities in a wide array of litigation and regulatory matters.
An area of special focus in the firm is the representation of rural water districts. Todd Luckman, Tom Barnes II, and Quentin Kurtz currently represent approximately 40 of these special purpose districts, assisting these quasi-municipal agencies in legal representation covering all of their operations. Gary Hanson is a regular contributor to the Kansas Rural Water Association’s Lifeline magazine and a lecturer at KRWA’s annual conference.
