One of the primary focuses of the Stumbo Hanson firm is municipal law. Throughout its history, Stumbo Hanson has represented several third-class municipalities and rural water districts in the state of Kansas. As with other firms practicing in this area, we have expertise and knowledge in the areas of powers and liabilities of local government entities, including matters such as land use and zoning issues, municipal employment disputes, and extensive experience in day-to-day operations of municipal and quasi-municipal entities. As a full-service firm, we are also able to provide litigation and appellate representation to these municipal entities, if the need arises.
An area of special focus in the firm is the representation of rural water districts. Gary Hanson currently represents approximately 30 of these special purpose districts, assisting these quasi-municipal agencies in legal representation covering all of their operations. Gary is a regular contributor to the Kansas Rural Water Association’s Lifeline magazine, as well a lecturing annually at the KRWA’s annual conference.
